Apply for an additional residential meter connection

If there is no subdivision proposed for a residential dual occupancy or granny flat, and more than one metered service is required you can apply for an additional meter.

Our additional metered options include:

  • One (1) additional standard 20mm metered service (so that each unit/dwelling has its own separate service)
  • One (1) 25mm metered service
  • 25mm service line with manifold (2 x 20mm meters)

Subdivision requirements

When a Torrens title subdivision is proposed, each dwelling/unit within the property boundary must have a separate standard 20mm meter.

Strata, community and neighbourhood title subdivisions also require individual meters, but these meters can be configured on a manifold.

Metered service connection requirements will be stated on your water development notice. If you do not have a water development notice, please contact us on (02) 4429 3214.

Please note: All meters connected to a property will be charged availability and water usage. Review our metered services comparison guide showing ongoing annual charges.

Steps to apply

Click on the below tabs to find out what you need, how to apply, and what happens next.

Before you apply

Have your documentation ready to upload

When you apply for an additional water meter, you will be asked to provide your water development notice number (e.g. DA24/1234), and a service location plan.

A service location plan is a simple diagram that provides us the information we require to install your meter in the position you want.

Please be advised, your nominated location must:

  • Be positioned along the front boundary, and
  • Not exceed one (1) metre in from the front boundary

Your service location plan can be uploaded in the application as a jpg or pdf.

Please note: In some cases, conduit for a long service may already be installed connecting to a water main that is located on the opposite side of the street. If your preferred location does not line up with the existing conduit, additional conduit installation costs will be incurred. In this instance we will contact you to discuss costs and possible alternative service location options.

What happens next

Step 1.Application review

On receipt of application, we will review your service location plan and if viable, issue a payment advice (invoice).

Full payment must be made prior to works commencing.

Step 2.Meter installation

On receipt of payment, within 20 business days we will install the meter in accordance with the approved service location plan or agreed alternative location. You must ensure the site has a minimum two (2) metre square clearance where the installation is to occur.

Step 3.Connection to dwelling

All internal pipes on the property including taps and drains, are the property owner’s responsibility. Once the meter has been installed, the property owner or builder must engage a licensed plumber to connect the metered service to the dwelling.

Should a meter be damaged or interfered with, charges may be issued to the property owner.

Metered services comparison guide for dual occupancy

To assist you in understanding ongoing annual fees and charges on the proposed meter configuration for your dual occupancy development, the below table provides our current breakdown of charges based on 2 x 20mm meters or 1 x 25mm meter.

Fees per service 2 x 20mm 1 x 25mm
Quarterly water availability charge $72.50 $60.75
Quarterly sewer availability charge $514.00 $358.00
Water usage charge* (80kl x $2.50) $200.00 $200.00
Sewer usage charge* (80kl x 0.90 x $2.26) - $162.70
Total quarterly amount charged $786.50 $781.45

Note: This table represents a quarterly water usage of 80kl. This amount is variable to the amount of water that goes through the meter.

* Water usage charge is based on the water recorded during the period multiplied by the water rate, and sewer usage charge is based on the water used multiplied by the discharge factor for dual occupancy and sewer use rate.
