Your Compliance Checklist will be reviewed by a Council Officer to ensure the proposed location, height, labelling of tank outlets, and any associated pipework is in accordance with Council regulations. You can find detailed information on Council's installation requirements by following this link to A Guide to Rainwater Tanks.
When Council is satisfied the conditions have been met, they will issue an approval to proceed with the installation. The approval email will specify an Exemption Verification Number and this is required when applying for the rebate.
Step 2 - Install the tank
If you have chosen to connect the tank to your internal plumbing, such as the toilet or washing machine, you will be required to arrange an inspection of the connection to ensure Plumbing and Drainage is in accordance with AS3500.
To book an inspection of the internal plumbing connection, contact Council's Development Services on:
- Nowra Office (02) 4429 3211, or
- Ulladulla Office (02) 4429 8999.
Bookings must be made at least 24 hours before the inspection is required and any dogs on the property must be restrained. Inspection fees apply.
Rainwater tanks for garden use only, do not require inspections.
To successfully proceed with the tank rebate request, you must have first completed the Compliance Checklist, received approval from Council to install the tank, and then installed the tank.
Council’s approval will include an Exemption Verification Number, you will need this in the online rebate request, plus an electronic copy of your rainwater tank receipt.
Only one rebate will be issued per property. More information on the Rainwater Tank Rebate Program can be found in our Rainwater Tank Rebate Policy.
