Apply for a pensioner concession

Shoalhaven Water offer eligible customers a pensioner concession on their water account. Having a pensioner concession will mean a reduction in your water account.

Pensioner concessions are managed through Shoalhaven City Council. If you are eligible for the concession, you will also receive a reduction in your rates account.

Eligibility

If you are the owner of the property and the property is your sole or principal residence you may be eligible for a pension rebate if you:

  • Have a current pensioner concession card issued from Centrelink, or
  • Have a current gold card from Department of Veterans' Affairs that meets certain criteria.

If joint owners are eligible for a pensioner concession, a separate form will need to be completed by each owner to receive the maximum rebate, otherwise only a partial rebate will be granted.

Find out if you meet Department of Veterans' Affairs criteria by following this link to Shoalhaven City Council's pensioner concessions webpage.

How the concession works

Water accounts are issued every three (3) months, if you become an eligible pensioner part way through the year and you meet the conditions, the concession will commence from the beginning of the next quarter billing cycle.

Equally, if your pension concession ceases part way through the year the concession will cease at the end of the current quarterly billing cycle.

Although we issue quarterly accounts, the maximum annual concession available for an eligible pensioner is:

  • Half of the water charges (availability and usage), to a maximum of $87.50, and
  • Half of the sewerage service charges, to a maximum of $87.50

Further to this, each quarter Council will pay an additional $2.50 against the water availability charge and an additional $2.50 against the sewer availability charge to assist with the removal of the interest grace period.

Please note: Amounts provided above are based on a pensioner with full eligibility. If you are not the sole owner of the property, you may receive a lesser amount.
