Shoalhaven Water staff showcasing the Nowra Wastewater Treatment Plant open day

Local Government Week, the chance for us to show you what we do!

Our FREE 'Open Day' at the Nowra Wastewater Treatment Plant was well supported with over 90 community members enjoying guided tours providing insight and discovery to how wastewater is collected, treated, and delivered back to the environment.

Wastewater Operations Manager, Keira Whitford saying “Across the Shoalhaven there are 13 wastewater plants combining 220 pump stations… Nowra being the biggest and with Bomaderry, the newest having both been redeveloped adjacent to their former sites in 2019".

Nowra treatment plant was first commissioned in 1937, the first for the region at the time. With an increased capacity and linked via distribution pipelines to the Reclaimed Water Management Scheme (REMS), 90% of the output is now beneficially reused on local dairy farms and sporting facilities across the city.
