Milton Ulladulla sewerage scheme

Background and overview

Since 1994 extensive investigations into a sewerage scheme upgrade and new treatment plant for the Milton/Ulladulla area have take place along with close consultation with the communities involved

A suitable plan was developed and we reached the completion of the construction phase in November 2005.

This marked the culmination of a lot of hard work and planning from everybody involved and means that the Milton/Ulladulla area now has an updated, more efficient and technologically advanced sewerage system that will cater for the area both now and as the population grows into the future.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved in the project both from the community and from the various organisations and contractors and congratulate them on a job well done.

Current Status

The scheme is proceeding in two stages:

Stage 1 – the new Sewage Treatment Plant, Pumping Station and connecting pipelines, and the offshore release pipeline were handed over to the Council in November 2005.

Stage 2 – the balance of the minor pumping stations (28), rising mains and gravity sewer upgrades is underway.

Upcoming Events

Council has let tenders for the construction of emergency storages and pump stations in the Milton Ulladulla area. The upgrade of the pumping stations is considered an essential component of Milton/Ulladulla Sewerage Augmentation. These pumping stations are located in environmentally sensitive areas, particularly those adjacent to waterways.  The successful contractor McNamee Constructions will be commencing work prior to the end of July.

The pumping station upgrade will provide further protection for the environment by bringing the facilities up to modern day standards. New pump wells next to the old pump station will provide a safer working environment for Council’s employees and contractors. New pumps and electrical switch cabinets will reduce the risk of mechanical and electrical failures.

For general information on the upgrade please call Ben Stewart from Shoalhaven Water on 02 4429 3515.  If you have any queries or concerns during the construction phase, please call Department of Commerce, Project Managers on 02 44299927.
